Engine adapters are used to reduce the size of the engine mount tube. Using an adapter provides flexibility if you want to fly your rocket on smaller diameter motors due to poor weather or smaller launch fields.

Something worth considering is to build all your rockets using one engine diameter size larger and then flying it using an engine adapter. If you ever want to fly your rocket on a larger engine in the future you can then simply remove the adapter.

* If flying rockets on larger engines always check stability beforehand. Adding larger engines increases the aft weight, this may move your centre of gravity to a point where the rocket becomes unstable.
